Beginner Sewing Basics – This is a “one on one” class. Here is a description of how you will learn to sew. Class is 2 – 3 hour sessions. Classes can be scheduled any free day from 1:30 to 4:30pm once you pay for the session. Click on this link to Enroll Now and we will then pick the day you wish to come.
Take our basic class, learn to thread and use your machine for straight stitch. Practice the basic seam allowances and make at least 2 projects as you learn. After you learn the basics, make a quick and easy project with a pattern. Learn to read the pattern and guide sheet. We will layout and cut the fabric for your project in lesson one so you will need to purchase your pattern and fabric before you come to class. Please use a tape measure to measure your hips for pants and bust for a top. This will determine the size of pattern you will need. Please bring a basic cotton broadcloth print or solid to class, no velour, fleece, sheers, plaids or knits.
Please chose from the following patterns only!
Depending on time used we can also start a 3rd project. I will give you a pattern for a pillow case. Please bring 1 1/2 yards of a cotton print for your pillow case and matching thread.
Lesson 1 – Learn to use your sewing machine to do basic sewing. Learn to sew seams, pivot, clip corners, stuff, hand stitch, insert a zipper. You will make 2 projects in the class: a pin cushion and a zipper pouch. We will read your pattern and prepare it for layout. 3 hours. 1:30-4:30pm.
Lesson 2 – Make the garment – Learn to read a pattern and guide sheet, layout the fabric and cut out the pants. Follow the guide sheet and complete the project. 3 hours. 1:30-4:30pm
A Sewing Machine can be provided on request. Basic sewing equipment can also be provided for class. Please email me if you wish to bring your own machine or use mine. I will need to know the model and make of the sewing machine you own and are bringing, Thanks!
