bg-homepage-communityBeginner Sewing Basics – Here is a description of how you will learn to sew. Class is 2 – 3 hour sessions.  Classes can be scheduled any free day from 1:30 to 4:30pm except Friday once you pay for the session. Using the link Enroll Now and we will then pick the day you wish to come.

Take our basic class, learn to thread and use your machine for straight stitch. Practice the basic seam allowances and make at least 2 projects as you learn. After you learn the basics, make a quick and easy project with a pattern. I suggest the pull on pants to learn pattern reading. Please use a tape measure to measure your hips. This will determine the size of pattern you will need. In class I will talk about choosing the amount of fabric and the type of notions you will need.

Please bring Butterick 5153 in your hip size to lesson 1. Depending on time used we can also start a 3rd project. I will give you a pattern for a pillow case. Please bring 1 1/2 yards of a cotton print for your pillow case and matching thread.

Lesson 1 – Learn to use your sewing machine to do basic sewing. Learn to sew seams, pivot, clip corners, stuff, hand stitch, insert a zipper. You will make 2 projects in the class: a pin cushion and a zipper pouch. We will read your pattern and prepare it for layout. 3 hours. 1:30-4:30pm.

Lesson 2 – Make the pants – Learn to read a pattern and guide sheet, layout the fabric and cut out the pants. Follow the guide sheet and complete the pants. 3 hours. 1:30-4:30pm

A sewing Machine can be provided on request. Basic sewing equipment can also be provided for class. Please email me if you wish to bring your own machine or use mine. I will need to know the model and make of the sewing machine you own and are bringing, Thanks!
