Jenny’s Sewing Studio has created several photo embroideries to give you some ideas of how to create a good, bad, ugly and great embroidery photo. If you own the SINGER Futura or the Compucon Stitch and Sew option called Photo Stitch you can add the photo stitch option for a very smart price. Now you can take a photo of your pet, your grandchild or even yourself and stitch it out.
The secret to a great embroidery photo is a clean background and a photo closeup. If you consider the hoop is only 4.5″ X 6.75″ it will help you relate to the artwork. If you have ever done cross stitch you know the count, or the number of pixcel determines the clarity of the finished product. Take a look at the designs we illustrated here! Notice how close-up we are! The cat was the hardest design to do as the contrast was minimal however the result was great. If you desire photo embroidery consider the Photo stitch option for the SINGER Futura. If you have the older Futura you may consider upgrading to get the new line design feature in the photo stitch option.
Here are the 3 options in the photo stitch. You can do running stitch which is our 1st example. You can choose 4 color, which sews faster, you can add special cropping, and the design is less intense with great results. This is the second example. Lastly You can choose monotone for the hint of the image. It all depends on the effect you want. Here is a video of how photo stitch works. This demo uses the Compucon version.

Embroidery using my Singer Studio S10
Print a template in your studio program for positioning
finished using the small hoop
In the next few months I have 2 wedding showers and 2 weddings for my nephews Andrew and Mike. I like to give personal gifts that the receiver can look at and say in later years, that was made by my Aunt Jennifer and Grandmom. I am making each couple a set of 12 napkins for future entertaining and have found napkin rings that are also neutral. The first decision was color. I asked and asked and no one could give me color so I made a neutral ivory 20″ square napkin using my rotary cutter to cut the napkins from a poly rayon 60″ wide fabric. I wanted a napkin that would be easy to launder or I figured they would not be used. Next I serged all the edges with a narrow 3 thread edge in matching thread and fray checked all the corners.
In the Studio embroidery program I used Hyper font and Auto punch to create letters and frames to fit the small hoop. Always center the design and save as JEF. I saved the designs on a formatted USB stick that was ready for the Studio to read. Print some of the designs to create a template for positioning. Most diagonal designs are positioned 3″ from the point of the napkin. Plug the USB into the Studio and you are ready to start embroidery.
I decided to use the small hoop because I did not have to stabilize the small size. Using the template cut to fit the point of the napkin, I slid the template under the napkin so I could be the position of the center of the design. I marked the napkin with a target sticker. I can use the same sticker over and over again. Next I hooped the napkin with the small hoop. The overlay worked perfectly to help keep the fabric positioning correct. Only 23 napkins left to do.

As promised I am sharing my embroidered wreath. This is a very easy project. The hardest thing was wrapping the tinsel garland around the styro foam wreath. Using my Futura Quintet and my new Singer Studio S10 I loaded several floral designs to embroider with red thread. I hooped 2 layers of sparkle organza and embroidered many of these flowers in my spare time. I cut each flower out and pinned it to the wreath.
It took a lot of flowers. The purple flower design I found on the Singer Studio. I am including a link to a free design I made using auto punch. I am offering Auto punch as one of the 3 programs that will come free with the Studio S10.
I hope you like my new Christmas wreath. Nice thing is I can keep adding things to the wreath using 3-D embroidery.
